We built spam call detector web app during YC Agent Hackathon
11/1/2025
So I just got back from the YC Agent Hackathon. what a crazy experience.

My team built SpamSense, basically an AI agent for finding spam calls. We had some trouble with Vapi, like, it was a whole thing. But we switched to LiveKit and it was honestly a good experience.

And Convex was totally mind-blowing. Their real-time database is seriously awesome.
I mean, I used to watch his YouTube videos a lot, but Jared from YC was there. And the James (co-founder of Convex) gave this really cool talk. He said how it’s hard for founders to “kill” their projects, and how engineers are like, emotionally attached to them. But he explained why it’s so important to do that.

Another big thing I learned from a YC founders panel was to build something that helps customers either make money or save money. It sounds simple, but I literally thought about that on the whole Caltrain ride back. It just makes so much sense.
Seriously, it was an incredible event. My teammate Mariana Ramirez was also just a really brilliant person. She just has this natural curiosity and builds things so genuinely. She stayed up almost the whole time, like, with only a few hours of sleep. I’m just so impressed with her.
